MST and VA Disability
Military Sexual Trauma (MST) is recognized by the VA as a qualifying stressor under 38 CFR 3.304(f)(5). The regulation provides relaxed evidentiary rules: a stressor can be established by credible supporting evidence other than service records (markers such as transfer requests, sudden duty changes, mental health visits, increased substance use, deteriorating performance). Conditions stemming from MST — PTSD, depression, anxiety, sexual dysfunction — are rated under their standard codes. The MST Coordinator program at every VAMC provides confidential support.
