Filing a VA disability claim in Georgia
Identical to the national process. Georgia-specific paths:

Georgia state benefits
Homestead property tax exemption
Under O.C.G.A. §48-5-48, veterans rated 100% service-connected disabled (or 100% TDIU) receive a homestead exemption of $109,986 (2025 amount, adjusted annually for federal cost-of-living). The exemption applies to county, school, and state property taxes. Surviving spouses retain the exemption under certain conditions.
Less-than-100% veterans may qualify for partial county-level exemptions in some Georgia jurisdictions — check with the county tax commissioner.
HERO Scholarship and tuition benefits
The HERO (Helping Educate Reservists and their Offspring) Scholarship provides up to $8,000 toward tuition at Georgia public colleges for children of Georgia National Guard / Reserve members who served in combat zones. Administered by the Georgia Student Finance Commission.
The Georgia Military Scholarship covers tuition at certain Georgia public colleges for members of the Georgia National Guard.
The Service-Connected Disabled Veteran tuition waiver waives tuition at Georgia public colleges for veterans rated at least 30% service-connected disabled.
Service-Disabled Veteran Driver License
Georgia residents rated 100% service-connected disabled (or TDIU) receive a free Service-Disabled Veteran Driver License or ID card. Issued by the Georgia Department of Driver Services with a GDVS-issued eligibility letter.
Hunting and fishing licenses
Georgia-resident veterans rated 100% disabled receive free hunting and fishing licenses. Discounted licenses available for less-than-100% service-connected veterans.
State Veterans Homes and Nursing Homes
Georgia operates two State War Veterans Homes: in Augusta and Milledgeville. Skilled nursing care; cost based on income with subsidies for service-connected veterans.
Hiring preferences
Georgia state hiring includes veterans' preference under O.C.G.A. §45-2-2. Disabled veterans receive enhanced preference points.
